Pol-Rail S.r.l. is a structure set up by the Italian Railways (Ferrovie Italiane FS) and the Polish Railways (PKP) to develop rail freight traffic between the two countries and, more in general, within Eastern Europe. The initiative aims to create new routes to provide an alternative for the flows of traffic currently gravitating on other modes of carriage.   Pol-Rail S.r.l is founded. The shareholders are FS Cargo with 50%, PKP-Viafer with 25% and Trade Trans Polska with 25% (the latter being 50% owned by PKP). Opening of the representative operating office in Brest (Belorussia). Rom-Rail is set up in Bucharest (Romania), 58% owned by Pol-Rail. Opening of the representative office in Moscow (Russia). Establishment of Ferest Kft in Budapest (Hungary). The 50% joint shareholders are Trade Trans Holding and Pol-Rail.
